  1. I think the worst thing a King can do to his Empire is expand it beyond its own good. It is bound to collapse after his death. Aurangzeb built the largest empire in India, and soon after his death the Mughal Dynasty’s end was put into motion.

  2. I have read a book about the disintegration of the Roman Empire. It was a fascinating piece of writing and got me interested in reading about the Roman Empire a lot… It’s nice to see a map of how brilliant their military achievements were. Nice post. :)

  3. “ROMA CAPUT MUNDI, REGIS ORBI FRENA ROTUNDI”.

Así rezaba la inscripción en la corona del Emperador Diocleciano (244-311 d.C.): “Roma, cabeza del mundo, gobierna las riendas del orbe”.

  4. ah, it’s true that the empire was soon broken into east and west, and that the west collapsed. But the Eastern, Byzantine, half of the empire lasted another thousand years, no? Right up until the sack of Constantinople, in 1453. Great post though, and wonderful map. I also love the panorama of the Forum. I used to live very near, in Rome, only 300-400 metres away. Makes me feel nostalgic ! Keep up the great work. – Arran.
